Why SEC should fear movement toward college football commissioner

I’ve never been a proponent of college football naming a commissioner to administer the sport’s “best interests.” My opinion runs contrary to a growing list of college football luminaries, including our own Tony Barnhart as well as Tim Brando and Nick Saban. Saban’s support for a commissioner especially surprises me considering what the SEC would be risking should one ever take charge.

The SEC has spent the past 80 years accruing power on the college football landscape; why would it give any of that power away to a commissioner, instantly placing itself on a more level playing field with other conferences?
