Mississippi State guard Quinndary Weatherspoon has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week.
Weatherspoon scored 16 points in 18 minutes off the bench in the Bulldogs’ 76-51 win over UT Martin on Saturday. He was 6 of 6 from the field including a pair of 3-pointers while also adding three rebounds, two steals and an assist.
The 6-foot-4, 202-pounder from Canton is averaging 8.7 points and 18.7 minutes per game so far this season.
Weatherspoon is the first SEC Freshman of the Week from MSU since Gavin Ware and Craig Sword (twice) accomplished that feat during the 2012-13 season.
