Dan Mullen has now been at Mississippi State for seven football seasons. That doesn’t seem like an incredibly long time, but it’s actually the third longest in the SEC behind Les Miles (11) and Nick Saban (9). So if LSU had actually fired Miles during that brouhaha the last week of the season, Mullen would be the 2nd longest-tenured coach in the league. And at seven years he’s three years ahead of fourth place (Kevin Sumlin and Hugh Freeze).
Mississippi State has been able to maintain head coaching stability for a while now, and seven years gives us a good sample size to judge against what other programs have done in the same time period.
