Mississippi State knew 2016 would be somewhat of a rebuilding season – after all, the Bulldogs lost the best player in school history in Dak Prescott and several key contributors off last season’s 9-4 team. But a season-opening loss to South Alabama?
Mississippi State, which was a 28-point favorite, looked sluggish and a step behind South Alabama all day in Starkville, ultimately falling 21-20. The Bulldogs did have a chance for a game-winning field goal, but Westin Graves’ 28-yard attempt bounced off the left upright in the waning seconds.
The Bulldogs lost both starting corners in fall camp, leaving major concerns in the secondary.
