Moments after Hunter Renfroe stepped off the field in the Triple-A National Championship Game Tuesday evening, the former Mississippi State standout received the news he had been longing for since he was drafted 13th overall in 2013.
The San Diego Padres finally called up the slugging right fielder after a monster season for the El Paso Chihuahuas in which he hit ..306 with 34 doubles, five triples, 30 home runs and 105 RBIs. Renfroe was named the Pacific Coast League’s Most Valuable Player and also played in the MLB Future’s Game in July.
The Crystal Springs native is the fifth former Diamond Dog to debut in the majors this season and sixth member of MSU’s 2013 College World Series team to be called up.
