Petrino prohibits Louisville CB Shaq Wiggins from transferring to 5 teams

Former Louisville cornerback Shaq Wiggins told ESPN.com that his former school is restricting him from transferring to Kentucky, Mississippi State, Purdue, Notre Dame and Western Kentucky.

Despite being a graduate transfer, which allows him to play immediately, Louisville can prohibit Wiggins from joining any team on Louisville’s 2017 schedule. But Mississippi State, Notre Dame and Western Kentucky don’t play against the Cardinals this fall.

Wiggins — who announced last month he would transfer — said he was most confused that he couldn’t transfer to Mississippi State; he assumes it’s because former Louisville defensive coordinator Todd Grantham — who Wiggins followed from Georgia to Louisville in 2014 — left for the same position with Mississippi State in January.
