Notebook: Can’t Count On Khyri

On the surface, it’s surprising how little excitement surrounds the return of Khyri Thornton, the second-year defensive lineman who spent all of the 2014 season on injured reserve with a strained hamstring. After all, GM Ted Thompson thought enough of the former Mississippi State star to select him in the third round of last April’s draft. But to anyone who actually watched Thornton in training camp, the apathy is very understandable.

Thornton was bad last summer. How bad? Put it this way – he made me appreciate the first camps of Jamal Reynolds, Justin Harrell and Jerel Worthy. Not only did the 25-year-old fail to make plays, but what was even more disappointing was that he didn’t seem to care that he wasn’t making plays.
