Surprisingly, Mississippi State did not hold the Guinness Book of World Records benchmark for simultaneous cowbell ringing.
At least not until Thursday night.
A total of 5,748 clanging cowbells were officially recorded at the annual Cowbell Yell pep rally held in Davis Wade Stadium. Participants were required to ring the Bulldogs’ favorite artificial noisemaker for 30-seconds.
The previous record for a cowbell ensemble was set at 640 in Switzerland on Sept. 6, 2009. The Associated Press reported that over 1,000 people rang cowbells at a race in Royal Oak, Mich., last month.
An estimated crowd of over 15,000 turned out for Cowbell Yell which featured university president Mark Keenum, director of athletics Scott Strickland, head coach Dan Mullen, defensive coordinator Manny Diaz and quarterback Dak Prescott as guest speakers.
