Joe Moorhead had barely set foot on Mississippi soil in late 2017 when he began talking to Mississippi State football players about championship rings and Heisman Trophies. Moorhead had just been hired as MSU’s new football coach. He stepped off the plane with an attitude he described this past Wednesday at Southeastern Conference Media Days as “guns blazing”.

Moorhead, like Bulldog fans, had high expectations for State in 2018. There was no filter in expressing those goals. The result for MSU was an 8-5 season – a strong year, but there was no championship ring or Heisman.
