Mississippi State WR Fred Ross is out for spring

Bulldogs coach Dan Mullen downplayed Ross’ spring absence to reporters, saying, “He knows what he’s doing. I don’t need him out here. We need him come the fall.”

Ross had 1,007 receiving yards, which was fourth best in the league.

De’Runnya Wilson left early for the NFL, so Mississippi State’s leading returning wide receiver this spring is senior Fred Brown, who had 27 receptions. Junior Donald Gray and sophomore Malik Dear should get extra reps in Ross’ absence. They need to make them pay off. There are especially high hopes for Dear this spring; his playmaking abiity might be the best on the team.
