Johnson to be named MSU pitching coach

Sources have confirmed that Dallas Baptist University’s Wes Johnson will be introduced as Mississippi State’s new pitching coach on Friday at an 11:30 a.m. press conference.

Johnson fills the role vacated by Butch Thompson when Thompson left MSU to become the head coach at Auburn last week.

In addition to spending the last two years at DBU, Johnson also has previous coaching experience at Central Arkansas and Southern Arkansas.

Last season at DBU, Johnson’s staff compiled a 3.32 team earned run average to help the Patriots advance to the Dallas Regional.

In 2014, Johnson guided a DBU pitching staff that established new school records in strikeouts (506) and batting average against (.
