Jeffery Simmons expected to make Mississippi State debut this week

Mississippi State true freshman defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons is expected to make his Bulldogs debut on Saturday against South Carolina.

Simmons, a five-star recruit, was suspended for last week’s season-opening loss to South Alabama after he was caught on video in March punching a woman. He later was arrested and charged for his role in the incident.

During the SEC coaches’ teleconference Wednesday, Dan Mullen wouldn’t say if Simmons would play against the Gamecocks.

“We’ll see what happens Saturday,” Mullen said. “We’ll see how the week of practice goes and make that decision.”

Sophomore wide receiver Malik Dear and senior defensive lineman Nick James, both of whom were also suspended last week, are also expected to return Saturday.
