Hammond leaves MSU football team

Sophomore tight end B.J. Hammond is no longer part of the Mississippi State football team.

A team spokesman confirmed that Hammond left the team prior to the Bulldogs’ season opener against Southern Miss.

The 6-foot-4, 242-pounder from Gadsden, Ala., appeared in two games against South Alabama and Vanderbilt in 2014 but did not record any statistics.

Hammond redshirted his initial season in Starkville in 2013. He was a former three-star wide receiver in high school, catching 15 passes for 306 yards and three touchdowns as a senior.
