Former Mississippi State cornerback Darius Slay has signed a contract extension with the Detroit Lions that will keep him with the team through the 2020 season – and make him one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL.
Slay was set to become a free agent after the 2016 season, but the extension will keep him with the Lions through the 2020 season. The extension includes $23 million guaranteed and could be worth up to $50 million total.
The SEC is well-represented among the top-paid corners in the league with LSU’s Patrick Peterson, Florida’s Joe Haden and one-time Gator Janoris Jenkins among the top 10, as is Slay.
