Mississippi State may have changed quarterbacks near the end of last Saturday’s loss to LSU, but that doesn’t mean Dan Mullen has lost confidence in starter Nick Fitzgerald.
The Mississippi State coach said Fitzgerald performed well against the Tigers during his weekly Monday news conference.
“I thought Nick played pretty well to be honest with you,” Mullen said.
Fitzgerald finished the LSU loss 12 of 24 passing for 120 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. He also absorbed four sacks, which cut his rushing total to 13 yards for the game.
Although backup Damian Williams sparked a brief comeback, cutting the final score to 23-20, Mullen said the resurgence was due not to mistakes from Fitzgerald but instead better performance from the Bulldogs’ receivers.
