Dan Mullen: Mississippi State QB competition could go into October

Mississippi State opens fall camp Monday, and Bulldogs coach Dan Mullen said the search for a new quarterback could go into October. There is a four-man race to replace Dak Prescott, arguably the best player in school history.

There are four competitors for the job: junior Damian Williams, sophomores Nick Fitzgerald and Elijah Staley and redshirt freshman Nick Tiano.

Mullen said he wants his quarterback to move the ball effectively regardless of the players around them. He wants efficiency from a quarterback working with the first- second- and third-team offenses.

Part of the QB evaluation is making sure each QB is moving the ball with all three teams (1st, 2nd, 3rd).
