Mississippi State pitching coach Butch Thompson is considered one of the leading candidates for the head coaching vacancy at Auburn.
Thompson interviewed with Tigers on Oct. 12 after athletic director Jay Jacobs fired Sunny Galloway after two seasons in late September.
“There’s been a ton of rumors about Butch and Auburn,” said MSU coach John Cohen. “Nobody deserves to have that opportunity more than a Butch Thompson. We’re cheering for him. We don’t want to lose him. I’ve told many people at Auburn, you’d be crazy not to hire this guy but I’ll be the happiest guy in the world if you don’t.
