State is battling to claim a national seed in the upcoming NCAA baseball tournament. Right now, the Bulldogs stand at #12 in the NCAA’s RPI rankings. The Trojans were at #85 prior to their 7-2 loss at Auburn last night. The Bulldogs play Auburn this weekend.
RPI is a huge factor used by the NCAA selection committee to determine the top 8 national seeds in the NCAA tournament. While it is not the sole factor, a team like Mississippi State with national seed aspirations needs to stay near the top eight to remain in contention. A loss to Troy would undoubtedly drop MSU in the RPI and potentially could put a national seed at risk.
