Assistant’s departure could hurt Mississippi State recruiting

He stuck to that promise, and one of the ways he went about that was by grabbing Tony Hughes as an assistant.

Hughes has coached at Southern Miss, Ole Miss and Mississippi State, and knows the landscape of Mississippi high school and junior college football better than anyone; he is responsible for several big-time Bulldogs recruits over the past few years.

But that relationship is no more: Hughes is the new coach at FCS member Jackson State.
