As usual in state of Mississippi, the Egg Bowl means a lot

The schools are separated by only 90 miles, but the fan bases could not be further apart.

“The truth is, supporters of Mississippi State and Ole Miss loved to loathe one another before either school played football,” legendary Mississippi sports writer Rick Cleveland said. “In the beginning, this was a rivalry of class as much as anything. The rivalry actually pre-dates the creation of Mississippi State.”
