The SEC had nine 1,000-yard rushers and four 3,000-yard passers last season. But only four of those rushers and just one of those quarterbacks return this season, which begs this question: Who, exactly, are the offensive backfield performers that SEC teams can count on?
As you have heard ad nauseum this offseason, quarterback is a giant question mark for the vast majority of league teams. A giant question mark. But the running back question should be a concern, too, as there is a lack of proven talent at the position throughout the league.
At the same time, the league’s top quarterback and the top running back are among the nation’s best at their respective positions, and both are legitimate Heisman candidates.
