Nic Perkins, a freshman from St. Louis, may not be well versed in the Ole Miss-Mississippi State rivalry, but his walk-off hit delivered something not seen in Mississippi in a long time.
With an 8-7 comeback win over the Bulldogs on Saturday in Game 3 of the regular season baseball series, the Rebels completed a sweep of the rivals in the major men’s sports for the first time since 1971-72.
For most of Saturday that seemed unlikely, but Ole Miss scored five runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game and won it in the 10th when Perkins chopper got past a drawn-in infield and scored pinch-runner Tate Blackman with the game winner.
