OXFORD, Miss. -- University of Mississippi volleyball player Ty Laporte has been killed in a two-car accident a few miles south of the Tennessee state line.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Master Sgt. Ray Hall said Friday that the 23-year-old Laporte died Thursday night in Benton County, Mississippi, about 50 miles north of Oxford.
Hall says it appears Laporte pulled into the path of an 18-wheeler driven by 63-year-old Rickey Kirkpatrick of Rainsville, Alabama. The wreck happened at the intersection of Mississippi Highway 7 and U.S. Highway 72, and it remains under investigation. Hall says no charges were filed.
