The no. 3 Ole Miss Rebels were in for quite a game against Vanderbilt on Saturday, with the Commodores proving to be a very tough matchup. Ole Miss was able to get the victory by a score of 27-16, but Vanderbilt hung in the game until late in the fourth quarter and played much better than their losing record would have suggested.
Vanderbilt kicker Tommy Openshaw scored the first points of the game with a 28-yard field goal that made the Rebels trail for the first time all season. The Commodores lead was short-lived, however, as quarterback Chad Kelly led the Rebels down and threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Damore’ea Stringfellow, who, in addition to scoring his first touchdown as a Rebel, finished the game with four catches for 71 yards.
