After a tumultuous 2018 Ole Miss football season which saw the Rebels finish with a 5-7 record we saw head coach Matt Luke make some significant staff changes. With the departures of both Wesley McGriff and Phil Longo Matt Luke made two new coordinator hires in coaches Mike MacIntyre and Rich Rodriguez.
Naturally with the new coordinators it was to be expected there would be more staff changes coming and they did. Coach Mike MacIntyre brought the new 3-4 defense to Oxford which depends greatly on the linebacker position and with that came more changes. Former LBs coach Jon Sumrall departed for UK which left the position open for a new coach and Mike Mac went after one of the best in Tyrone Nix.
