Ole Miss defensive coordinator Dave Wommack to retire after season

Ole Miss defensive coordinator Dave Wommack will retire at the end of the 2016 season, the school announced Saturday.

The announcement was made an hour before the Rebels were set to kick off against Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl.

Wommack, 60, has served as Ole Miss’ defensive coordinator for the past five seasons, all of which have come under head coach Hugh Freeze. He also had coaching stops at Arkansas, Missouri, South Carolina and Georgia Tech during a coaching career that spanned nearly four decades.

“I’m grateful to God for more than 38 rewarding years as a college football coach,” Wommack said.
