Ole Miss’ A.J. Brown not a normal-sized slot receiver, but he has shown he can be used in role

OXFORD, Miss. – Go to the Ole Miss preseason depth chart, and you’ll see talented sophomore A.J. Brown lined up as an outside wide receiver. That’s not where he lined up for most of preseason camp.

Van Jefferson, a third-year sophomore who was second on the team with 49 catches last year, missed camp while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. He is expected to return soon.

Jefferson’s absence and the emergence of junior DaMarkus Lodge allowed Ole Miss offensive coordinator Phil Longo to tinker a bit and put Brown in the slot. All coaches reserve the right to move players around, but don’t expect Brown on the inside to be only a camp thing.
