What’s the goal of House Bill 1040? Mississippi state representative Trey Lamar discussed the bill, which would affect NCAA investigations in the state, on WKRS-FM 105.9 The Zone in Jackson, Miss.
The bill would set guidelines “to be used by the NCAA when carrying out investigation of association rules and regulations by public member institutions in the state of Mississippi.” One of the guidelines is that “the NCAA Enforcement Staff and its Committee on Infractions shall have nine months to complete the investigation and issue its ruling.”
Should it not issue its ruling in the nine-month window, the state of Mississippi would fine the NCAA $10,000 a day until a final ruling is made.
