OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss coach Matt Luke is putting the attention on his centers this week. He has little choice, actually.
Junior starter Sean Rawlings left early in the Rebels’ 27-16 loss at Cal with an ankle sprain so severe it required surgery Monday. Ole Miss has a bye this week, and Luke is hopeful that Rawlings – plus wide receiver A.J. Brown and defensive end Victor Evans – will be ready when the Rebels face No. 1 Alabama in Tuscaloosa on September 30.
Rawlings’ injury has been the most discussed. The Rebels had 16 penalties against the Bears, just three flags short of a school record that has stood for 68 years.
