OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss ran the ball well in Saturday’s scrimmage, but the improvement comes with an asterisk: The Rebels’ defense could play only its base sets.
Still, a 5.5-yards per carry average for a team that struggled so mightily on the ground last season is a cause for smiles. Ole Miss ranked No. 12 in the SEC and No. 95 nationally in rushing offense in 2016 at 149.4 rushing yards per game. In SEC play, that figure dropped to 136.7 yards per game.
An experienced offensive line with more depth than the Rebels have had in recent seasons is expected to help improve those numbers.
