OXFORD, Miss. – One of the most prolific quarterbacks in Ole Miss history, Chad Kelly, tore up a knee and abruptly ended his career last November.
When Jason Pellerin did not win the brief quarterback competition to start the last three games of 2016, he was moved to tight end – or H-back or wide receiver – in the spring that followed.
The thinking was then that because of his athleticism, Pellerin, at 6-foot-4 and 237 pounds, needed to be on the field somewhere.
Pellerin, though, has had trouble getting on the field.
As recently as mid-August, when starting tight end Dawson Knox went down with a foot injury, Ole Miss coach Matt Luke hinted that Pellerin’s role would expand.
