Evidently, Freeze isn’t too worried about quarterback after this season, either, even though Kelly is a senior. Kelly missed Saturday’s practice with a groin injury, and Freeze told the media Monday that redshirt freshman Jason Pellerin and true freshman Shea Patterson – a five-star early enrollee – did just fine in his stead.
Freeze said he already is impressed with Patterson, a Louisiana native who played his final season of high school ball at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Patterson was the highest-ranked quarterback in the 2016 recruiting cycle.
“Shea’s not a normal freshman,” Freeze told reporters.
