Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson will be eligible to play this season.
The NCAA decided Friday in the case of Patterson to waive its normal rule that requires non-graduated transfers to sit out a year before returning to the playing field. Patterson, a third-year player and former starter at Ole Miss, appealed for the waiver by arguing that Ole Miss coaches previously misled him and his old teammates about the severity of sanctions their program would face for breaking NCAA rules.
Michigan and Ole Miss worked together on a new waiver for Patterson, and Michigan withdrew its previous waiver application and all associated materials in favor of a cooperative application that both parties agreed to, according to a joint Michigan and Mississippi statement.
