As the 2016 season approaches, it’s time to consider that a question involving the greatest quarterback in Ole Miss history might not be answered with “Manning.”
I’m serious, so bear with me for a moment.
Archie Manning, a two-time All-American, is the best-known athlete in Ole Miss history and always will be the most-revered Rebel. While his last season in Oxford was 1970, his name remains throughout the Ole Miss record book. Perhaps most prominent: His 436 passing yards in the famous 1969 loss Alabama – the first nationally televised prime-time game in college football history – remains the highest single-game total in school history.
