‘Big boy football:’ Hugh Freeze no doubt about Patterson redshirt decision

Does Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze have second thoughts about the long-term implications of removing Shea Patterson’s redshirt? The answer: No.

This, Freeze said, is “big boy football.”

His decision to use Patterson in the Rebels’ come-from-behind 29-28 victory at Texas A&M means the freshman won’t be available in 2020, but Freeze said that he isn’t troubled by that prospect.

Freeze discussed that decision, NCAA transfer policy and the contributions of two key linemen during his weekly press conference.

“As long as Shea and his parents were OK with it, I cannot look at those seniors, who changed the trajectory of this program, and say to them, ‘I am not going to give you the best chance to win your last three games,'” Freeze said.
