HOOVER, Ala. – Hugh Freeze knows he has some shortcomings as a coach. One he’s working on is his tendency to use biting sarcasm to make a point with his players and coaches.
“My coaches will tell you that I get a little rough on the headsets during the game,” he said when we sat in his office in Oxford, Miss., this spring.
During preseason camp in 2015, Freeze had an incident on the practice field with Chad Kelly, who was competing for the quarterback job after transferring from East Mississippi Community College.
“I crossed a line with my sarcasm,” Freeze said.
