Ole Miss Rebels Football Roundup: Everything You Need To Know At Midseason

The #24 Ole Miss Rebels are picking up the pieces after a gutting 37-24 upset loss at Memphis this past week, and there's no time for them to sit back and feel sorry for themselves. The Rebels are home prepping for a massive SEC battle with #14 Texas A&M, seeking a banner win to push themselves back into the SEC West race. We're here to get you caught up with news and rumors from Oxford with our Ole Miss Rebels Football Roundup: Everything You Need To Know At Midseason.

Assessing Laremy Tunsil's Return

OIe Miss HC Hugh Freeze was asked a couple weeks ago whether he'd be willing to throw star offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil right into the starting fire after his seven-week suspension for multiple alleged NCAA infractions, Freeze left no room for interpretation.

"Absolutely," he said.

While it would perhaps have been more desirable for Tunsil to make his return against a cupcake non-conference opponent and not All-American candidate Myles Garrett and a top-tier Texas A&M defensive line, Freeze doesn't seem to be worried.

"[Tunsil] has been in our system long enough, and he is athletic enough, that he should be able to handle coming back when it is time," Freeze said.

Ole Miss Student Senators Vote For Mississippi Flag Removal

A 33-15 vote on Tuesday Night by members of Ole Miss' Associated Student Body secured a resolution in favor of removing the Mississippi state flag from all flagpoles on university premises. The flag has been the source of major controversy both in the state and around the nation for its inclusion of the Confederate flag.

The resolution itself is not enough to ban flying the flag. It serves as a formal request for the university to do so.

"As a state institution, we fly the flags representing our state and nation," the university said via a public statement before the official vote. "However, as a university committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive campus for all students, we continue to join other leaders in Mississippi to encourage our government to change the state flag."
