Wild place Mikko Koivu on IR, recall Greg Pateryn and Nico Sturm from AHL

Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu suffered an apparent lower-body injury against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. It’s unclear exactly how he was injured, but apparently the ailment is bad enough to keep him out of action for a little while. The Wild announced Friday that the 36-year-old is headed to injured reserve.

To fill in for Koivu as he recovers, the Wild recalled forward Nico Sturm from the Iowa Wild. Sturm has collected six goals and 11 points in 23 games with Minnesota’s AHL affiliate this season.

Losing Koivu certainly isn’t the best news for the Wild.
