Minnesota Wild put veteran Matt Cooke on waivers, report says

In their first move to clear salary cap space, the Minnesota Wild reportedly have placed veteran forward Matt Cooke on waivers.

According to a report from Canada-based Sportsnet, Cooke, 36, will have his contract bought out by the Wild if he's not claimed on waivers.

Wild officials didn't immediately respond to interview requests from the Pioneer Press.

Cooke was the Wild's oldest skater last season and only played in 29 regular season games because of injury, finishing with four goals and six assists. He played in seven playoff games, recording two points.

Cooke has one year remaining on his contract, which comes with a $2.
