Vikings will not bring back Marwan Maalouf in 2021

While the offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings may or may not be back with the team in 2021, we’ve gotten a much more definitive answer about the special teams coordinator.

On Tuesday morning, the Vikings announced that the contract of special teams coordinator Marwan Maalouf would be allowed to expire and that it would not be renewed.

The Vikings brought Maalouf in as the special teams coordinator at the start of the 2019 season to replace the departed Mike Priefer. The Vikings’ special teams in 2020 were, in a word, awful. Dan Bailey set new career lows in both field goal percentage and extra point percentage, and the Vikings had the lowest average in the league on punt returns as well.
