Vikings trade for Nick Mullens to join backup QB competition

In an effort to shore up their backup quarterback situation, the Vikings acquired Nick Mullens from the Raiders on Monday for a 2024 conditional seventh-round pick, according to a source with knowledge of the trade.

The deal was first reported by Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

The competition to back up Kirk Cousins between Sean Mannion and Kellen Mond has been among the most prominent position battles at training camp. Cousins has not played in either preseason game as Mond and Mannion have split the offensive snaps.

Mond, a 2021 third-round pick, appeared to make strides again the Raiders on Aug.
