Vikings' special teams produced good moments and bad

MANKATO, Minn. -- After one exhibition game, the long-snapper battle between Cullen Loeffler and Kevin McDermott remains a horse race, while rookie punt returner Stefon Diggs has a leg up on veteran Marcus Sherels.

Special teams provided plenty of fodder, good and bad, Sunday night during Minnesota's 14-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Canton, Ohio.

The highlight was Diggs' weaving, 62-yard return behind solid blocking from Brian Peters, Josh Kaddu and Michael Mauti that set up Joe Banyard's 1-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter.

"We did a great job on the gunners," special teams coordinator Mike Priefer said Tuesday.
