Short-handed Vikings lead Bears 17-7 at halftime

The Vikings began Sunday's game against Chicago at TCF Bank Stadium without three of their top defensive players. Then late in the first half their best offensive player went down.

Running back Adrian Peterson suffered a left-ankle injury, but the Vikings announced he was probable to return for the second half. Minnesota led 17-7 at halftime.

Peterson rushed 12 times for 56 yards. He was injured on a 9-yard run on which he regained the NFL rushing lead with 1,307 yards over Tampa Bay's Doug Martin, who has 1,305.

The Vikings were without nose tackle Linval Joseph (foot injury), linebacker Anthony Barr (groin) and safety Harrison Smith (hamstring).
