Twins: Michael Tonkin is comfortable alternative in a jam

On a day when setup man Blaine Boyer was being rested, it was left to Michael Tonkin to navigate the dangerous Hanley-Papi straits in the middle of the Boston Red Sox lineup.

Working with a 6-4 lead and a man on in the eighth inning, Tonkin walked Hanley Ramirez on five pitches but came back to get David Ortiz on a harmless groundball to third with a 95-mph sinker.

Ortiz finished the series 1 for 12 with a run-scoring groundout and just four balls out of the infield -- all to left field. His only hit was a gift double that Eduardo Escobar misplayed in a soggy outfield on Tuesday.
