It isn't just the sheer volume of double plays for Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe, who on Tuesday night moved within one of Harmon Killebrew's 45-year-old club record.
Plouffe's rate of hitting into twin killings has exploded, as well.
Typically hitting fifth behind Miguel Sano in recent months, Plouffe entered Wednesday's play having grounded into a majors-leading 27 double plays in 112 chances. Ex-Twin Kendrys Morales of the Kansas City Royals was second at 24.
Plouffe's double-play rate of 24.1 percent easily leads the team. Slow-footed Kennys Vargas is second at 20 percent (7 of 35), with no one else higher than 15 percent.
