Phil Hughes recovered from a difficult first inning, kept his team in the game for six innings, and the Twins finally cashed in against the Oakland bullpen to beat the Athletics 8-7 at Target Field on Monday night.
Brian Dozier doubled twice and drove in a pair of runs, Jordan Schafer collected three hits and two RBI and Torii Hunter blasted a homer more than 400 feet deep to left field to put the Twins in front for good.
Hughes certainly hasn’t had many innings worse than the first, when he threw more than one-third of the pitches he’d need on the night.
