Twins demote pitcher acquired from Phillies in Jhoan Durán trade after struggles

The Twins have demoted right-handed pitcher Mick Abel to Triple-A St. Paul, according to The Athletic's Aaron Gleeman. With MLB rosters expanding from 26 to 28 players on Sept. 1, the Twins will be adding three players to their big-league roster before their next game.

The Phillies sent Abel to the Twins on July 30 along with catching prospect Eduardo Tait in exchange for star closer Jhoan Durán. The Twins view Tait, 19, as the most promising piece of the Durán deal, but Abel, 24, has the potential to make an immediate impact, while Tait likely won't be in the major leagues for at least a couple more years.
