Minnesota Twins say goodbye to former closer Glen Perkins

The Minnesota Twins informed Glen Perkins today that they would not be picking up his $6.5M 2018 option and would instead be exercising a $700K buyout, ending Perkins’ 14-year relationship with the organization.

Perkins’ Career

Perkins graduated from Stillwater Area High School and attended the University of Minnesota, where he was a standout pitcher, going 19-5 with a 2.86 ERA over 31 games, 28 starts, with the Golden Gophers, throwing 217 innings with a 1.07 WHIP and a 44/230 BB/K ratio. His elite performance in his two seasons in the Gophers rotation got him drafted 22nd overall in the 2004 draft.
