Charley Walters: Tom Kurvers, ex-Bloomington Jefferson, Minnesota-Duluth star, hunts Stanley Cup ring

Tom Kurvers earned a Stanley Cup ring as a player. He's hoping for another as a member of a front office.

"It's really hard to achieve," Kurvers said.

Kurvers, 52, the former Bloomington Jefferson star and Hobey Baker Award winner at Minnesota-Duluth, is senior adviser to Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman. He won a Stanley Cup as a second-year defenseman with the Montreal Canadiens in 1986.

Kurvers keeps his Stanley Cup ring in a safety deposit box but takes it out for the NHL playoffs. He also has a replica of the Prince of Wales Trophy for winning the Eastern Conference title as well as a Stanley Cup replica.
