Timberwolves assistant Rick Brunson resigns following conduct complaints

The Timberwolves issued a terse, one-sentence news release Tuesday that said assistant coach Rick Brunson resigned, effective immediately.

Brunson had been the subject of complaints for improper conduct toward women, an NBA source confirmed.

Brunson was one of four assistants to Tom Thibodeau, the team’s president of basketball operations and head coach, along with Andy Greer, Ed Pinckney and Ryan Saunders.

Brunson, 45, played nine seasons in the NBA. He had been an assistant coach for Denver, Charlotte and Chicago (under Thibodeau) before joining Thibodeau’s staff in 2016. In 2015, he was acquitted in Chicago of all charges he had sexually assaulted a massage therapist with whom he admitted to having an extramarital affair.
